Player housing is a type of accommodation in a game that can be owned by players. There are three types of player housing: static housing, apartments, and freeholds. A player may own up to one of each type of housing simultaneously.

Static, Apartments, and Freeholds Static housing and apartments are available on a per-server basis, while freeholds are available on a per-account basis. Static housing is non-instanced accommodation within a node, also known as in-node housing. It becomes available for purchase at the village stage (node stage 3) and the number of available static housing increases as the node advances. Apartments are instanced spaces within a node that offer some housing functionality. There will be an initial 50 apartments available for purchase when a node advances to a village stage. Freeholds are sizable player housing plots that can be situated within the zone of influence of a village stage (stage 3) node or higher. Freeholds are limited to one per account and are approximately half an acre in size. They cannot be sold to other players and require blueprints for the construction of buildings used to process resources into processed goods.

Player housing offers a number of benefits, including the ability to claim citizenship to a node, the ability to place furniture and decor items, storage containers, crafting benches, and the ability to display prized items and achievements. Player housing also allows for social activities and proximity-based bonuses. Players can also grow crops in the garden sections of their player housing.

In order to claim citizenship of a node, a player must be at the village stage or higher and can only claim citizenship to one node at a time. Citizenship is bound to an account on a per-server basis, meaning that a player can only be a citizen of one node per server. Citizenship can be lost if the node is destroyed, and players do not need to declare citizenship to any node.

Apartments can be decorated as desired. Freeholds allow the owner to grant shared access to certain freehold services to a limited number of other players and permission to decorate a freehold is restricted to the owner of the freehold.

Freeholds are player-owned plots of land that allow players to build various buildings, including blacksmiths, fishery, forges, farms, guild halls, homesteads, inns, lumber yards, mills, shrines, smelters, stables, and taverns. These buildings require blueprints and materials to construct and may have multiple tiers with different footprint sizes. Freeholds offer adjacency bonuses to players who arrange their buildings in a certain way.

Freeholds also allow the owner to sell consumables that are only available from specific buildings and offer protection from theft and player versus player (PvP) combat, except in the case of a successful node siege. Players may hire NPC guards to defend their freeholds after a successful node siege.

The number of available apartments increases as the node progresses, and the mayor of the node can also construct additional apartment buildings at the town stage (stage 4) if there is an available plot. Apartments come in different sizes at different price points, which may fluctuate based on the number of units already sold in the node.

Other player housing options are types of accommodation in a game that can be owned by players, but are not necessarily classified as static housing, apartments, or freeholds. These options may include inns, homesteads, guild halls, or any other type of player-owned space that offers some form of housing functionality. These options may be easier to obtain for players who do not need the full range of benefits and customization options offered by static housing, apartments, or freeholds. They may also be more affordable or accessible to players who do not meet the requirements for citizenship or do not want to invest in a freehold. Other player housing options can provide players with a sense of ownership and belonging within the game world, as well as functionalities such as storage, crafting, and socialization. These options can vary from game to game and may offer different features and benefits depending on the specific game and its housing system.
